A list of some sites for special needs and the autism community
There are some growing concerns around the educational provision of SEND young people during the COVID-19 pandemic and as we know the internet is full of information. Here is a list of some sites Yotism have found have been well received within the special needs and autism community around educational support and access.
- Department for Education (DfE) Coronavirus Helpline. The DfE has set up a helpline offering guidance for anyone with education-related questions. The number is 0800 046 8687, and lines are open 8 am-6 pm (Monday – Friday), and 10 am – 4 pm (Saturday and Sunday).
- Coronavirus Spotlight: What does the Coronavirus Act 2020 mean for children and young people with SEND.
- Coronavirus Spotlight: Vulnerable Children.
- Starline – New national helpline for parents: 0330 313 9162
This is a free telephone helpline offering home learning advice from qualified teachers and parenting/education experts.
- Challenging Behaviour Foundation offers a list of resources for the families of children, young people and adults with severe learning disabilities and who display behaviours that challenge the home setting.
- Council for Disabled Children – Guidance and Advice on Coronavirus: Learning Disability and Autism Focus. This is a collaborative document between the GOV.UK and the NHS and focuses on supporting children and young people with autism and a learning disability.
- University College London- Homeschooling children with SEND. This is a fabulous series of information resources to help parents, carers and families support pupils with SEND at home during the period of school closures.
